Squash and racketball have some subtle differences, but they both offer a variety of personal and health benefits from improving cardiovascular function to being a great way to make new friends. On top of that, both are accessible to anyone with a ball, a racquet and court they can rent! Both of these sports are perfect for those with a busy lifestyle – playing squash can burn up to 1500 calories per hour and it only takes half an hour to take advantage of the amazing physical benefits. There are also variations of the sport to fit any player, such as Squashercise, which is a fun, female friendly activity class based on squash movements.

Racketball is also a great sport to try. It has a bigger racket and a bouncier ball, which means it’s easier to get a rally going, ensuring a good workout for both players. Racketball has exactly the same rules as squash so it’s simple to learn and get started!

Squash has a huge global competition scene and England has some of the top performers on the world stage. Nick Matthew, hailing from Sheffield is a double Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and is often found topping the world rankings. Other top players include top ten-ranked James Willstrop from Yorkshire and in the women’s game Laura Massaro is among the top three.

There are over 4,500 courts in England alone!  Most will allow you to hire racquets and balls so all you have to do is turn up!
